The
Dutchess Wine Trail is a small trail nestled in the heart of New
York's Hudson Valley. This trail is bordered on the left by the
Hudson River, Albany above, Sharon, CT on the right and New York City
below. Presently this wine trail includes four wineries: Alison Wines
& Vineyards, Cascade Mountain Winery, Clinton Vineyards, and
Millbrook Vineyards & Winery.
On
our trip along this trail, we visited Clinton and Millbrook and
overall enjoyed wonderful tasting experiences at both wineries.

Located
in the heart of Hudson Valley's beautiful wine region, Clinton
Vineyards is best known in the region for its notable sparkling wines
and dessert wines. The vineyards were established in 1976 by Ben
Feder, a pioneer in Hudson Valley Viticulture. He and his wife,
Phyllis, own, operate and are intimately involved in every aspect of
vineyard management and wine making. Clinton Vineyards may be
best-known for its Seyval Blanc, but we were partial to the sparkling
wines made in the traditional Méthode
Champenoise. Specifically, Seyval Naturel, an
"English style" dry sparkling wine and Jubilee, an
"American style" bone dry offering with a hint of Delamane
Brandy added for a truly unique finish. And no visit to this
vineyward would be complete without experiencing the Cassis, an world
class award-winning elegant and exquisite black currant dessert wine
made from three different types of currants. Delicious, and this is
from two diehard dry red wine drinkers! |
